Below is a brief outline of the committees for the Lynchburg Morning Rotary Club. Please take a look at the list and see which of these committees you would like to join. We appreciate your service and look forward to your participation in one of these great areas!
Club Service committee
This committee will be chaired by Chris Jones and is responsible for several key areas. The committee chairman is responsible for the weekly programs for the coming year, which Chris will be coordinating. It is also responsible for Social Events for member gatherings during the year. This committee also selects the Sargent-at-Arms. Karl Miller & Jessica Arrington are currently our Sargents-at-Arms.
Community service committee
This committee will be Chaired by Carl Dewitt and coordinates our annual Dictionary Project in the Fall, Street Clean-Up each quarter in Boonsboro, our participation in the District’s Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) conferences, as well as any other volunteer opportunities we decide to pursue, like Miriam's House, Habitat for Humanity, Daily Bread, Salvation Army Bell Ringing in December and other opportunities and requests to serve the community during the year.
International service Committee
This committee will be Chaired by Billy Hansen and works on International Projects including grant writing and applications, coordinating with other Rotary Clubs locally and abroad to team-up on projects and presenting our ideas to other clubs from time-to-time seeking partnerships. The committee’s focus next year will be purifying water in multiple villages in Guatemala in partnership with the Rotary Club of Metropoli.
Rotary Foundation Committee
This committee will be chaired by Chad Mooney and is responsible for all-things related to the Foundation including Paul Harris Fellow reporting, annual member giving, updates on the great things the Rotary Foundation is doing globally and Polio Plus-our global polio eradication effort.
This committee will be chaired by David Peters and is responsible for membership growth and retention.
Golf Tournament Committee
This committee will be chaired by Robert Goodman. This is our signature fundraiser for the year and nets over $30,000 annually for local non-profits. The majority of the work for this committee happens from December through the date of the Tournament in late April. Some of the work this committee does includes recruiting corporate sponsors, hole sponsors, prize sponsors, door prizes, brochure creation and coordinating staffing the day of the event.
Public Image Committee
This committee is chaired by Mike Lewis. The role of the public image committee is to develop and execute a plan to tell the public about Rotary and promote the club's service projects & activities. The committee works in conjunction with the membership committee to use the media to help recruit new members by educating them on the work of our club in the Lynchburg area. The main tools used to accomplish these goals are our the club website & Facebook page. As a member of the public image committee, you agree to help maintain/update the website and Facebook page with relevant content, write press releases for the local media outlets and submit stories regularly to be included in the Rotary Informer.
vocational service Committee
This committee is a brand new committee chaired by Tim Talley. The goal of the committee is to figure out tangible ways to incorporate our professions into our work with Rotary. Some ideas that have gone around include speaking to area schools about careers in the Rotarian's field, developing a mentorship program with area students to help them find jobs after college, networking opportunities to share Rotary with the business community, etc.
